Hatha Yoga: Fire + Ice [Virtual]
with Kelly Frank
Hatha yoga links breath and movement together during a series of seated, standing, balancing, belly and reclining yoga postures. The sequence of poses and counterposes are crafted so participants gain strength, flexibility, detoxify and increase inner calm, resulting in an overall sense of improved well-being. Hatha yoga practice has many wonderful benefits like calming the nervous system, lowering stress hormones, increasing immune function and promoting mind body connection. Continued practice helps to unfold dormant potential as you become more aware of your own deep, internal wisdom.
In this Hatha yoga session inspired by the winter season, we will use counter concepts of fire and ice to complement each other and guide our theme. This class will build a fire within, getting hot and burning away excess thinking, stress and anxiety. Sun Salutations A and B will build heat, and a core strengthening series will follow to wake you up out of winter’s gloom. Like a sauna, toxins and stagnant energy will fall away. Class will feature a standing balancing sequence while the body is warm. As if you were taking a cold plunge, we will picture the feeling and effects of an icy cool down with a cooling breath technique and a slow, easy finishing sequence close to the ground. This Hatha yoga practice will leave you feeling revitalized and inspired, like a beautiful snow fall out of your window while you are warm and cozy inside. All levels are welcome for this 1 hour class, playlist provided.
Winter Yin Yoga [Virtual]
with Kelly Frank
Winter leads itself to rest. Especially after a busy December, January is a perfect time to practice some new self-care techniques. Yin Yoga is purely for deep relaxation and restoration. Yin Yoga postures are all resting poses close to the ground, seated or lying down, held for 1 to 5 minutes. This length of time allows the muscles to release and the stretch to go deeper into the fascia, the body's connective tissues. Class will cleanse you energetically and leave you feeling so relaxed and calm for a good night’s sleep. The positive effects of yin yoga last into the following week. No amount of flexibility or experience needed. This will be a 60 min. class set to peaceful music. A pillow (or 2) and a blanket will be nice props to make this practice as comfortable as possible. If you have never tried yin yoga, you are in for a wonderful treat!
